The Becca Schmill Foundation is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization run by volunteers committed to honoring Becca’s memory.
THE BOARD:
Deb Mann Schmill
President
Becca’s mother. Deb has been a climate activist for almost two decades and is the founder and past president of the Needham Community Farm. Before having children, she was a computer programmer and accountant. She graduated from U-Mass Amherst with a degree in business administration.
Stu Schmill
Clerk
Becca’s father. Stu has worked at MIT since 1987 in a variety of roles, including as the coach of the rowing program and currently in admissions and financial aid. He graduated from MIT with a degree in mechanical engineering.
Stacie Mann Shapiro
Treasurer
Becca’s aunt. Stacie has been a bookkeeper for 25 years while raising her two children. She was the treasurer of the Needham League of Women Voters for nine years and is currently the treasurer of New Year’s Needham and Community Health Partnership-Honduras.
Carrie Schmill Leifer
Director
Becca’s aunt. Carrie is currently a lay leader at the Forest Hills Jewish Center in Queens, NY as their VP of Education. She left her corporate job in Market Research many years ago to stay home with her two children who are now in college and grad school. Carrie has a degree in business administration from SUNY at Buffalo.
Eric Mann
Director
Becca’s uncle. Eric has been an education consultant for social-emotional learning for more than 20 years. His prior work was as a teacher, psychotherapist and special education administrator. Eric received his Masters degree in Social Work in 1988.
Rick Mann
Director
Becca’s uncle. Rick is a lawyer and community activist. He has served as a board member and/or officer of numerous non-profit organizations including the New England Holocaust Memorial, the American Jewish Committee, and the American Anti-Slavery Group. A portion of Rick’s legal practice has been devoted to pro bono matters.
